Launch cables are used to reduce the effect deadzones, caused by mechanical connection of the OTDR to the Fibre-Under-Test. Constructing a backscatter trace before the Near end connector enables the individual to evaluate the connector for Insertion & Return Loss. This can also be known as a Pulse Suppressor.
