  1. New Portable Digital Microscope

    20 Jan 2004

Lambda Photometrics have available a portable digital microscope from the Scalar Corporation. The DG-2A operates as a microscope with up to 2000x magnification or a macro view digital camera in a single package. With a built-in battery operated power supply the instrument is ideal for both laboratory and field applications.

A range of lenses is available 25x to 200x being standard, high resolution lenses are 100x, 200x, 500x and 1000x, a 2x digital zoom feature increases the magnification to 2000x. An integral light source may be UV, visible or infrared.

The DC-2A can provide 2.3 megapixel images and the image can be viewed on a built-in LCD monitor or stored on an internal memory card. Video output ports are provided for large screen monitoring, projection or VCR recording Weighing less than 400 grammes, the DG-2A is ideal for on-site inspection. Its integral lithium-ion battery can provide up to 1.5 hours of continuous viewing and a convenient carrying case can hold the microscope and its core accessories.

  2. New "Flashport" unit for cold light sources from Schott

    18 Aug 2003

Lambda is pleased to introduce the "Flashport", a fully functioning Flashsystem for stereo-microscopy and macroscopy in industry and life-science. The Flashport enables exact exposure and documentation of fast moving objects in incident and transmissive light as well as objects with a low degree of reflection.

The Flashport will be used with a SCHOTT KL 1500 LCD or KL 2500 LCD in combination with a specifically designed Flash-lightguide. In addition, a commercially available Flashunit from the company Metz, and a suitable camera with adapter cables are necessary. Optionally color filters and GFP excitation filters can be used.   For further information about this release, please contact Clive Phillips or Mark Bambrick on 01582 764334 or email

  3. New from SCHOTT the MHR®-50 A Compact, Metal Halide Light Source

    18 Aug 2003

Schott launches the MHR®-50, a compact, metal halide light source for applications that require bright, white light such as machine vision and microscopy applications.

The MHR®-50 is an exceptional light source producing significantly more light output than Halogen lamps with similar bulb lifetimes. Maintaining high uniformity during operation, the MHR®-50 Light Source can also produce extremely hight light output when needed for special applications.

The MHR®-50 Light Source features a heavy-duty, grounded metal housing, built-in thermal shutdown, retractable handle, and a detachable IEC cord. The soft start "lamp saver" circuitry assists in producing twice the light output of DDL lamps, with a bulb lifetime of 3500 hours average at 50W output. Benefiting from a thirteen-blade isis diaphragm with infinite settings, the MHR®-50 can reduce light intensity while maintaining the color temperature.

  4. SCHOTT Presents The Universal Light Source

    18 Aug 2003

Lambda presents the Universal Light Source from Schott for OEM applications where DC power is already available and the need for an economical light source exists.

The compact and lightweight design of the Universal Light Source makes it excellent for use in mobile applications or on robotic arms. The Universal Light Source allows for operation of multiple lamps in the MR-16 format, and includes the Modulamp® and connectors. If you use your own DC power source, you can get the reliability and performance of our light source in a lightweight, economical package suitable for remote operation.

  6. Laser Pulse Picker Systems from Conoptics

    01 Aug 2003

We are pleased to introduce a range of systems designed for Pulse Picking and Regenerative Amplifier applications. Designed and manufactured by Conoptics Inc., these systems utilise Electro-optic modulator technology to achieve high levels of performance.

Pulse Picking is a technique for selecting individual pulses from a free-running mode-locked laser, typically a Ti Sapphire tuneable laser. This type of laser is used in many pump probe and semiconductor spectroscopy applications.

Each Conoptics Pulse Picker system comprises an optical modulator head, a modulator driver amplifier and a synchronous countdown unit. Choice of specific components depends on the wavelength and performance specifications required, but typically you can achieve:

    • Repetition Rates from single-shot to 20-30MHz
    • Gate Widths <18ns
    • Wavelengths from 500nm to 2000nm

Choosing a Conoptics system gives you the following advantages:

    • Low voltage Electro-optic technology enabling high switching rates
    • Zero beam deflection
    • Low dispersion - especially useful for tuneable Ti Sapphire systems
    • Very competitive pricing
    • Facility to evaluate system before purchase
