  1. Overcoming limits – world's fastest standard VGA sensor meets the latest board level camera design

    14 Feb 2012

Nowadays ever faster production processes require very high frame rates during visualization and testing in many sectors. At the same time, increasing miniaturization calls for highly flexible components, which can be integrated even in the smallest available space.

Baumer meets these requirements with the new MXG03. The board level camera is equipped with the world's fastest VGA sensor from CMOSIS, the CMV300, which was specifically developed for the high speed range. With up to 250 frames/s, the cameras can keep pace with the fastest applications. Due to the flex print connecting sensor and system board with each other, the camera can be adapted individually to almost any mechanical design. The VGA cameras represent the core of powerful image processing systems for high-speed processes. This is for example applicable in checking blister packages for completeness or vials for particles. They are also used in the semi-conductor industry for presence checks and position monitoring during assembly. Also in increasingly non-industrial sectors like life sciences, they provide ideal performance thanks to their small, flexible design and high speed.

The integrated global shutter with CDS (Correlated Double Sampling) enables detection of the fastest movements with low readout noise and excellent image quality. Besides from top speeds and maximum flexibility, the MXG03 also features a high sensitivity which surpasses even the sensitivity of CCD sensors. The camera has a GigE standard interface which offers a high bandwidth, reduces integration and maintenance costs and supports the installation of camera networks. Comprehensive camera features like trigger delay, sequencer, debouncer, packet or transmission delay, storable user sets or an optional Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supply are coming with this CMOS camera on top. The MXG03 is an addition to the present eight camera models in the MXG series and will be available in monochrome and colour.

  2. Highest performance for superior demand: LED Light Source

    24 Nov 2011

SCHOTT KL 2500 LED: performance leader in cold light sources

SCHOTT has continued to expand its portfolio of LED cold light sources. The KL 2500 LED delivers equivalent light output to a 250-watt halogen lamp, in fact more than 1,000 Lumens out of a 9 Millimeter diameter fiber bundle. Especially during long periods of use in automated processes, this product is cost efficient due to its outstanding price/performance ratio. The brightness and shutter function can be set on a PC and controlled with the help of individual software.

As a result of rising cost pressures and high volumes of samples in the laboratory sector, halogen light sources are gradually being replaced by those that use energy-efficient high-performance LED technology, and processes like stereomicroscopy are being automated. As a pioneer, SCHOTT has expanded its successful KL LED series to include a system that can be easily integrated into existing infrastructures to confront these challenges.

The new KL 2500 LED light source is PC controllable via USB interface. It features an electronic shutter and ripple free DC illumination. The brightness can be set at three different increment values: fine, standard or coarse. An LCD display indicates the brightness setting or operating mode. The product also features a connection for a foot switch and remote control.

SCHOTT uses LEDs that produce neutral white light with a color temperature of approximately 5,600 Kelvin. Unlike halogen systems, this means there are no more annoying changes in the color temperature of the light during dimming. Daylight filters are also no longer necessary. The appropriate type of halogen filter is also available for users who prefer halogen light that approximates a warm white shade.

Because these new devices use the same proven fiber optic interface used in halogen light sources, only the light source needs to be replaced. This means customers are able to continue using their existing fiber optic light guides. These devices are equipped with universal power supplies to ensure that they can be used throughout the world without any limitations.

The LEDs have a service life of 50,000 hours or 1,000 times that of a halogen light bulb, an aspect that translates into less downtime. Furthermore, LED technology allows for energy savings of around 75 percent and, thus, significantly lower operating costs. Because of its high light output and special features, its use in life science and industrial applications of stereo microscopy and macroscopy is especially important.

  6. Dual GigE Technology Doubles Standard GigE Bandwidth to 240 MB/s

    15 April 2011

Baumer’s new SXG cameras combine state-of-the-art Quad Tap sensors from Kodak with innovative Dual GigE technology.

This provides the perfect solution for applications that require excellent image quality and high frame rates simultaneously. Thanks to the new interface technology, the images with resolutions from 1 to 8 megapixels and frame rates of up to 120 fps are transferred to the PC via standard GigE interface boards. With the capability of transferring at 240 MB/s, the full potential of the Kodak Quad Tap sensors can now be utilized.

With a transfer distance of 100m, the Dual GigE interface offers all the advantages of the standard GigE interface. Instead of a static Link Aggregation Group (LAG), Baumer uses dynamic LAG to configure the Ethernet ports automatically, eliminating possible error sources right from the beginning. In addition, the redundant communication link of the Dual GigE system provides better transfer security, ensuring data transfer and reliable camera operation even if one of the two Ethernet cables is disconnected. All cameras are supplied with Power over the Ethernet (POE) technology to eliminate a separate power cable. With production starting in June 2011, now is the time to consider integrating these cameras into your vision application.
